The list of full committee of Sylhet district and metropolitan Awami League has been submitted to the center. In both the units, dissatisfaction has arisen among some leaders and workers over the committee given by the president and general secretary.
An ‘alternative committee’ has been submitted to the central office in both the units alleging non-availability and exclusion of qualified posts in the committee. Senior Awami League leaders are embarrassed about such disputes over the committee.
However, one of the reasons for this dispute is the removal of about two dozen leaders from the previous committees of the district and metropolitan units. According to reliable sources, apart from a few young leaders and activists due to their age, some active leaders have also been dropped from the committee due to various allegations. As a result, the ousted leaders united and submitted another alternative committee to the Center.
According to sources, Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed, Advocate Sheikh Makhlu Mia, Advocate Moinul Haque, Principal Shamsul Haque and some other leaders have been dropped from the district Awami League committee this time. Among them Sheikh Makhlu Mia is permanently in exile.
The number of dropouts in the metropolitan unit is slightly higher than in the district. Sirajul Islam, Siraj Box, Mafur Ali, Tuhin Kumar Das, Tapan Mitra, Jagdish Das, Advocate Shamsul Islam, Fahim Anwar Chowdhury, Anwar Hossain Rana, Radhika Ranjan Home Chowdhury, Shahanara Begum, Prince Sadruzzaman, Misbaul are going to be former from the metropolis this time. Suite, Abrar Ahmed and a few other members.
Among them Sirajul Islam, Siraj Box, Tuhin Kumar Das, Fahim Anwar Chowdhury, Anwar Hossain Rana, Miftaul Islam Suite were completely inactive in the party activities in the past days. And Radhika Ranjan Home Chowdhury, Abrar Ahmed have been in exile for a long time.
Tapan Mitra, Jagdish Das and Advocate Shamsul Islam have been dropped from the draft committee even though they are active in politics.
However, many of those left out have been placed on the advisory committee.
The new committee of Sylhet district and metropolitan Awami League was formed through the conference on December 5 last year. Advocate Lutfur Rahman was elected president of the district Awami League and Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan was elected general secretary. Freedom fighter Masuk Uddin Ahmed was elected president of the metropolitan Awami League and Professor Zakir Hossain became general secretary.
But the process of forming a full committee got stuck due to the Mujib Year celebrations and the Corona situation. However, after a meeting of the Awami League’s secretariat a week ago, the party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader directed to submit the committees of all the units, including Sylhet, to the central office by September 15.
After such instructions, the top four leaders of the district and metropolitan Awami League started the work of forming the committee. They submitted the committee within the stipulated time.
